Sizzling Shenanigans

ACTION

Grampa Sizzle spends 1 minute telling a short tale about fire, after which one of the PCs must attempt a skill check to act the scene out. If a PC augments the scene by creating a magical fire effect using their own resources, the PC making the skill check gains a +2 status bonus to their check; if they instead attempt to do so with an illusion and Grampa Sizzle disbelieves the illusion with a Perception check, the associated skill check instead gains a –2 status penalty. All four scenes must be completed in the following order, but which PC attempts which check is up to the party.

  • Scene 1: Grampa Sizzle tells the story of an aristocrat who sets his hat on fire when he tries to light his pipe (DC 24 Society check or DC 26 Performance check).

  • Scene 2: Grampa Sizzle tells the story of a goblin who tries to ignite a drunkard's breath, only to get a face full of fire when the drunkard suddenly belches (DC 24 Stealth check or DC 26 Thievery check).

  • Scene 3: Grampa Sizzle tells the story of a thief who sneaks into a giant's kitchen through an open window only to land on the giant's red-hot stovetop (DC 24 Acrobatics check or DC 26 Athletics check check).

  • Scene 4: Grampa Sizzle tells the story of a bard who flirts with a fiery ifrit genie—awkward romantic shenanigans ensue (DC 24 Performance check or DC 26 Diplomacy check). Regardless of the scene, the results of a PC's check are as follows. If a PC takes fire damage, they can defend against it with a DC 24 basic Reflex save.

Critical Success The PC depicts the scene with wit, style, and perfect comedic timing. The party earns 2 Laughter Points.

Success Entertainment achieved, but with slight burns. The PC takes 2d6 fire damage, and the party earns 1 Laughter Point.

Failure The PC bungles the attempt and gets a painful and not-so-entertaining burn for their troubles. The PC takes 4d6 fire damage.

Critical Failure Catastrophic explosion or unexpected firestorm! Every PC takes 8d6 fire damage, and the blast frightens the phantasmal crowd, causing the party to lose 1 Laughter Point.
