Stealth +15 (expert; or –10 and no minimum proficiency if the thicket has been recognized)
DescriptionA 10-foot-wide patch of dead shrubs with wilted flowers steals the breath of the living.
DisableDC 28 Nature (expert) or DC 28 Survival (expert) to recognize the thicket for what it is and avoid it
AC 21; Fort +18, Ref +11
Hardness 15, HP 58 (BT 29); Immunities critical hits, precision; Weaknesses fire 15
Branch Ambush
Trigger A creature that breathes steps within 5 feet of a thicket
Effect The thicket makes a sinewy leaves Strike against the triggering creature. The hazard then rolls initiative.
Branch Grab
If the breathless thicket hits a creature with its leaves, that creature becomes Grabbed by the thicket. Unlike with a normal Grab, the creature isn't Immobilized, but it can't move beyond the reach of the thicket's leaves. A creature can sever a branch by Striking against AC 18 and dealing at least 12 slashing damage. A branch doesn't have the thicket's Hardness, and damaging it doesn't deal damage to the thicket (Escape).
Suffocate(incapacitation, nonlethal)
Requirements The breathless thicket has Grabbed one or more creatures that breathe
Effect The dead flowers of the breathless thicket begin pulling oxygen from its victims' lungs. Each creature grabbed by the breathless thicket takes 4d6 nonlethal bludgeoning damage and must attempt a DC 26 Fortitude save.
Critical Success The creature takes no damage and can immediately attempt to Escape as a free action.
Success The creature takes half damage and is Stupefied 1 for 1 round.
Failure The creature takes full damage, is stupefied 1 for 1 round, and is Stunned 1. For as long as it's grabbed by the thicket, the creature must hold its breath or suffocate.
Critical Failure As failure, but the creature also falls Unconscious and starts suffocating. If it's no longer grabbed, the creature stops suffocating.
Melee Sinewy Leaves +20 (reach 10), Damage plus Branch Grab
Routine(3 actions) The breathless thickets patch attempts to Strike a creature in its reach. It then uses Suffocate if it has any creature Grabbed; otherwise, it continues to Strike.
ResetThe thicket goes back into hibernation 1 round after there are no more targets to Strike in its reach. It then remains dormant for 24 hours.
