Four ghostly candles appear around the bed—one at each corner—followed by a transparent image of a frail Thalleus reading from a tome in a wavering voice. Each living creature who can hear these words must succeed at a DC 23 Will save or become Frightened 1 (Frightened 2 on a critical failure). The haunt then rolls initiative.
(1 action) The haunt recreates the moment when Thalleus dies, causing the ritual to go awry. This releases a wave of void energy, dealing 4d8 void damage in a 10-foot emanation from the bed (DC 21 basic Fortitude save). This damage is reduced by 1d8 for every ghostly candle that has been snuffed out.
The haunt deactivates 1 minute after all living creatures have left the room. One hour after this or being Disabled, the haunt is ready to trigger again. Putting Thalleus's spirit to rest permanently destroys the haunt.
